Frost Solutions provides municipalities and contractors with real-time visibility into road conditions—pavement temperature, humidity, dew point, and frost—enabling proactive winter maintenance. The Mini-RWIS (Road Weather Information System) platform is now trusted by communities across 37 states and 7 Canadian provinces.
02The challenge
Traditional road weather monitoring relies on sparse, expensive weather stations and regional forecasts that miss hyperlocal conditions. This leads to unnecessary early crew deployment, wasted salt and fuel, reactive maintenance strategies, and dangerous conditions from unpredicted black ice. Public works departments needed affordable, site-specific data to optimize winter operations.
03The solution
A rugged, solar-powered IoT weather station that mounts easily and captures hyperlocal weather data every minute. The embedded systems integrate multiple sensor types—surface temperature, air conditions, humidity, dew point—with cellular IoT connectivity for reliable remote communication. The Frost Vision software platform provides automated snow and frost alerts, surface temperature updates, and hyperlocal 72-hour forecasts in one dashboard.
