IoT product development, from sensor to cloud

Connected products fail at the seams between device, network and cloud. We build the whole path, so data gets from the sensor to the dashboard reliably, securely, and at a cost that works at scale.

One owner for the whole system

An IoT product is three products: the device, the connection and the cloud. When each is built by a different vendor, nobody owns the failures between them: the device that drops data during a cellular outage, or the backend that buckles when a thousand devices report at once.

That whole path has been built and run in production. At Frost Solutions: solar-powered weather stations reporting every minute over cellular from 37 states and 7 Canadian provinces. At Rocket Wagon: connected products for Fortune 500 clients, deployed across 750+ retail locations.

IoT consulting is available on its own, too: architecture reviews, connectivity and platform selection, and a second opinion before you commit to a design.

What you get

Scope of work

  • 01

    IoT architecture

Device, network and cloud design sized for your fleet, power budget and per-device cost.

  • 02

    Device hardware & firmware

Sensors, power and connectivity on custom hardware, with firmware built for unattended operation, in an enclosure designed in-house or with our expert partners.

  • 03

    Connectivity selection

BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRa or cellular, chosen on range, power, data volume and monthly cost.

  • 04

    Cloud ingestion

Device provisioning, secure messaging and data pipelines on AWS IoT and similar platforms.

  • 05

    Dashboards & alerts

Real-time dashboards, alerting and the first web app, with partner teams brought in when it needs to scale.

  • 06

    Fleet operations

Monitoring, remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates for devices in the field.

How it works

Four phases, each with a clear exit

  1. 01

    Architecture

Connectivity, cloud and cost model chosen before hardware is committed.

  2. 02

    End-to-end prototype

One device reporting into a real backend early, to expose integration risk.

  3. 03

    Pilot fleet

A small deployment in real conditions, with monitoring from day one.

  4. 04

    Scale & operate

Provisioning, update and support tooling for a growing fleet.

Fit

Who this is for

A good fit

  • Hardware startups building a connected product for the first time
  • Companies adding sensing or remote monitoring to an existing product
  • Teams whose pilot works but whose fleet won't scale

Not the right fit

  • App-only projects with no device. We'll introduce you to an app partner.

Founder-led

Hands-on, start to finish.

Every project is led by Luke Libraro, hands-on from the first schematic to the factory floor to the fleet dashboard.

Luke brings 15+ years of engineering and product leadership across hardware, firmware, cloud and AI. No account managers: the person who scopes your project leads the work. We build the first web experience, from dashboards to companion web apps, alongside the device, and bring in partner teams when an app needs to scale.

Enclosures, in-house or with expert partners

We design your enclosure in-house or bring in expert mechanical engineering and industrial design partners, so the product is beautiful, functional and built to work in the field. Already have a design team? We work alongside them.

FAQ

Common questions

What does an IoT consultant do?

Helps you make the decisions that are expensive to reverse: which connectivity to use, how devices are provisioned and secured, where data is processed, and what the system costs per device per month. A review before you build can save a board spin or a platform migration.

Which IoT connectivity should I use?

It depends on range, power and data volume. BLE suits short range with a phone nearby. Wi-Fi suits powered devices on a home or office network. LoRa suits small, infrequent messages over long range. Cellular suits devices that must work anywhere without local infrastructure, at a monthly cost per device.

Do you build the mobile app too?

Dashboards and alerts, yes. For a full consumer mobile app, we work alongside a partner app team and own the device and cloud integration.

Can you help us scale from a pilot to a fleet?

Yes. Scaling usually needs provisioning, monitoring and update tooling the pilot didn't. We plan those before the fleet grows.

Tell us what you’re building.

A short call is usually enough to know whether we’re the right fit, and what the first phase should prove.
